What is a Power Relay?

A power relay is an electromechanical switching device that uses an electromagnet to open or close high-current electrical circuits with a low-power control signal. It provides reliable switching of high-power loads such as motors, heaters, and compressors, while offering electrical isolation between the control and load circuits to protect sensitive electronic equipment. HWRELAY power relays are manufactured with premium materials and advanced processes, capable of stable operation in harsh environments including high temperature, high humidity, and strong vibration. They are essential components in industrial control and power management systems.

HWRELAY Power Relay

How to select the right relay

Choosing the correct relay requires more than matching the coil voltage. Buyers and engineers should evaluate the load type, contact rating, switching voltage, contact form, mounting method, electrical life, mechanical life, insulation performance and operating environment.

For resistive loads, the rated current can usually be selected according to the circuit requirement. For inductive loads such as motors, pumps, solenoids and transformers, inrush current and arc suppression must be considered.

  1. Coil voltage — match to control circuit (12/24v dc for plc, 110/220v ac for line)
  2. Contact current — add 1.5x–2x safety margin over actual load
  3. Load type — resistive, inductive (motor), capacitive (psu) each need different specs
  4. Contact form — spst (on/off), spdt (changeover), dpdt (reversing)
  5. Certifications — ce+rohs (eu), ul (us), saso (me), tisi (sea)

For project sourcing, please send your required specifications, annual quantity, target price, certification needs and existing relay model. We can provide datasheets, samples, equivalent model recommendations and customized packaging support.

FAQ

What is the difference between a signal relay and a power relay?

Signal relays are mainly used for low-level signals and small currents, while power relays are designed to switch higher current or voltage loads. Power relays usually have stronger contacts, larger contact gaps and higher load ratings.

Power relays are specifically designed for switching high-current and high-voltage loads (typically 25A and above), with stronger arc extinguishing capability, thicker contact materials, and more robust mechanical construction. Standard relays are generally used for signal-level switching below 10A, while power relays can directly drive motors, heaters, and other high-power equipment.

Yes. Please send the original relay model, coil voltage, contact rating, pin layout, dimensions and application details. We can help recommend a compatible or alternative power relay model.

HWRELAY power relays use silver alloy contacts and premium coil materials. Under rated load conditions, mechanical life can reach millions of cycles, while electrical life is typically 100,000 to 500,000 cycles depending on load conditions. Actual service life is affected by load type, operating frequency, and environmental conditions.

Yes. Socket type, plug-in and DIN rail compatible power relays are suitable for electrical control panels, automation cabinets and maintenance-friendly systems.

Common coil voltage options include 5VDC, 12VDC, 24VDC, 48VDC, 110VAC and 220VAC. Other voltage options may be available depending on the relay series.

Yes. We support OEM and project-based purchasing with bulk quotation, sample testing, datasheets, packaging options and long-term supply planning.
